Devlog #1: The beginning

Who We Are:

Hello, everyone! We’re a group of three students from the Universidad de Chile, and we're developing a brand-new game with no name yet. But before diving into details of it, let's introduce ourselves:

NoNameNoGame Studios TEAM:

  • Jorge
    • Favourite Game: Rocket League.
    • Favourite Food: Sushi.
    • Hobby: Play video games.
  • Antonio
    • Favourite Game: Mario Galaxy
    • Favourite Food:  Ajiaco
    • Hobby: Going to the gym and playing videogames
  • Nicolás
    • Favourite Game: Assassin's Creed 2.
    • Favourite Food: Hamburger.
    • Hobby: Play video games.

From a brainstorming we decided to make the game we are about to introduce, it was quite difficult because we had several options, all of them were top-down action-based games, but we ended up choosing this one.

What We're Making:

This is a fast-paced action game with two main roles:

  1. Hero: The Hero is tasked with entering the dungeon to defeat the Dungeon Master. Along the way, the Hero will encounter a path filled with enemies and traps. To succeed, the Hero must improve their equipment and abilities, growing stronger to overcome the challenges of the dungeon.

  2. Dungeon Master: The Dungeon Master’s goal is to prevent the Hero from reaching them. They have control over the dungeon, including enemies, traps, and rooms, complicating the Hero's journey at every turn.

The game will be online and exclusively for two players. We are still considering whether to add support for more players in the future.

How We're Developing It:

We are using Godot 4 for the development of the game. Currently, we are focusing on the core mechanics and searching for assets that fit the game's theme.

  • We’ve started working on online compatibility, implementing a menu and code provided by our instructor. This setup includes the basic functionality needed to establish a connection between different devices.
  • We’ve also been developing the basic mechanics for the Hero. The Hero can now move and perform basic attacks on enemies.
  • Lastly, we've been working on the team's branding, creating an introduction sequence that features our team logo.

What's Next:

Our current focus is on refining the basic mechanics of the Hero so we can begin designing levels and developing the Dungeon Master mechanics. We believe the most important aspect right now is ensuring the game feels smooth and comfortable to play. Additionally, we need to test the connection and synchronization between devices.

Stay Tuned:

Thanks for reading our first devlog! We’re super excited to continue developing THIS GAME and can’t wait to share more updates with you as we progress. Stay tuned for more insights into our development process, challenges, and upcoming features!
